Upaya Peningkatan Kesiapsiagaan Bencana Gempa Bumi dengan Metode Dramatic Play pada Anak Prasekolah

Introduction: Indonesia is a country with a high risk of earthquake disasters due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Children, particularly preschool-aged children, are considered a vulnerable group because they have limited understanding and experience in responding to disaster situations. Therefore, early disaster preparedness education using appropriate learning methods is needed. Dramatic play is an interactive learning approach that allows children to understand disaster response through role-playing and direct experiences.
Objective: The aim of this community service was to improve earthquake disaster preparedness knowledge among preschool childre
n through the implementation of the dramatic play method.
Method: This community service was conducted using an educational intervention approach through dramatic play activities at SPS Sentosa Mulia. The participants were 27 preschool children. The activity consisted of preparation, earthquake preparedness education, role-playing simulation, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure changes in children’s knowledge before and after the intervention.
Result: The results showed an increase in children’s knowledge regarding earthquake disaster preparedness after participating in the dramatic play activity. The average score increased from 3.56 in the pre-test to 6.59 in the post-test, with an improvement of 3.03 points. The minimum score increased from 2 to 5, and the maximum score increased from 5 to 8. These results indicate that dramatic play can improve children’s understanding of earthquake preparedness.
Conclusion: Earthquake preparedness knowledge among preschool children has increased through the application of play based methods. This method can be used as an alternative educational strategy for early childhood disaster preparedness because it provides an enjoyable, interactive, and experience-based learning process. Continued implementation through routine disaster simulations and school-based education is recommended to strengthen children’s preparedness behavior.
