Introduction: Preoperative caesarean section patients may experience anxiety because of limited information about spinal anaesthesia. A concise audiovisual resource was developed to complement routine verbal education at the partner hospital.
Objective: This community service activity aimed to describe changes in knowledge and anxiety scores after audiovisual education.
Method: Thirty-one elective caesarean section patients at the Bougenville Ward of RSUD dr. R. Goeteng Taroenadibrata Purbalingga completed a 10-item knowledge questionnaire and a documented 20-item STAI-T before watching a six-minute video, followed by a presenter-led question-and-answer session and immediate reassessment. Data were summarized descriptively; no control group or inferential analysis was used.
Result: Before education, 17 participants (54.8%) had poor knowledge and 14 (45.2%) had moderate knowledge. Afterwards, 13 (41.9%) had good knowledge, 16 (51.6%) had moderate knowledge, and 2 (6.5%) remained in the poor category. The mean anxiety score changed from 54.48 to 47.61, a difference of 6.87 points.
Conclusion: Audiovisual education was followed by observed improvements in knowledge categories and lower mean anxiety scores. Because evaluation was immediate and uncontrolled, the findings do not establish causality. The video may support structured preoperative education when combined with direct clarification by health professionals and periodic review by the hospital team.
